Working with the SMT Creative team on the Boston Marathon is always an exciting and slightly daunting challenge to be a part of the process of creating the LED screens for one of the Abbott World Marathon Majors. My main work on the Boston Marathon includes the Jumbo Board and Finish Line Photobridge LED Displays and graphics to reflect the visual yearly brand guide updates as well as technical yearly LED updates.

One of my proudest years working on the marathon occurred in only my second year where I lead the process of updating the LED display shows by implementing a new info structure of integrated graphics, creating a quicker workflow for onsite graphics to be generated as a player crosses the finish line. I also streamlined the creation of hundreds of graphics through After Effects, so that all of the client requested content would be quicker and easier to render out in one unified file with adaptable templates. This process involved setting up a mix of After Effects linked essential graphics, data fields connecting and importing from multiple spreadsheets, as well as unique expressions to be able to adapt the size, scale, and position of any string of text, image or content to fit proportionally within a given space or working parameters.

The Boston Marathon has been one of my favorite major marathons to work on and push the limits to improve the graphics and tech quality of the LED screens.
